The Role:

The role will primarily focus on HTML/CSS UI design for web content and interactive prototypes, there will also be opportunities to work on mobile apps and contribute to the UX process of the wider team.

We are looking for a Junior or Graduate level Interaction/UI Designer to join our exciting team in Dundee, working as part of our User Experience team on the WRLD map platform. If you’re excited by the prospect of being at the core of an innovative Design team, I suggest you read on.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Working within the design team, contributing work which explains conceptual ideas to multi-disciplinary teams as well as clients.
  • Help to create clean and simple, user-centred designs - incorporating sketches, user journeys, wireframes and prototypes which describe and meet user needs as well as meeting business goals.
  • Help design and conduct user research and usability tests to ensure designs meet client and user requirements
  • Analyse all research and feedback to gain user insight – and incorporate this feedback into new and iterated designs
  • Work closely with UX, design and artists to create pixel perfect mockups and assets as well as documentation and polished interactive prototypes.
  • Work closely with developers to design and implement solutions that contribute to a coherent, consistent user experience across multiple platforms.
  • Help to design and develop the visual and interaction elements of the user experience and refine towards a consistent polished design, taking into consideration typography, iconography, layout and brand identity.
  • Manage your time and productivity within the agile/lean environment.

Here’s what we expect from successful candidates:

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating passion, flair, ability and a user centric approach to design of interactive digital products..
  • A good and demonstrable understanding of HTML/CSS skills is important for this role. (complimentary languages/frameworks are a bonus)
  • Passionate about user experience design and recent advances of principles, methods and tools.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in design, preferably Interaction design, (digital) product design or Graphic/Communication design with demonstrable interaction design strength.
  • Have the ability to gather and interpret user feedback, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Strong user experience skill set including strategy, information architecture, and design aesthetic.
  • The ability to think self-critically about designs and provide feedback on them.
  • Advocates for free expression who are used to receiving constructive feedback and in pursuit of better a better experience for users.
  • Naturally empathetic with ability/tendency to think from a user’s perspective.
  • Excellent visual, written and oral communication skills that allow you to solve problems as part of a team
  • You must have the right to work and reside in the United Kingdom – i.e. European Economic Area / Swiss national or holding current UK work permit

The following are a definite advantage, but don’t sweat it if you haven’t got the full stack:

  • Experience of designing for mobile, ideally Apple iOS and Android
  • Expert user of Industry standard design and prototyping tools
  • Knowledge of service design tools and techniques
  • Knowledge and awareness of Usability principles and practise.
  • Knowledge of Conversion Rate Optimisation techniques
