Our 3D map data

Our goal is to build the most intelligent representation of the world in 3D. We ingest the highest quality GIS data available in each region, stylize landmarks, and carefully localize the look and feel of the WRLD Map in each region.

We currently have over 35M square kilometers mapped on our platform including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland, and more.

We prioritize build out of new territories based on customer demand. If you require a particular area for your project please contact our commercial team to discuss accelerating it up our roadmap.

Creating Our 3D Maps

WRLD can ingest a variety of data formats including vector data in ESRI Shapefiles & GML and raster data in GeoTIFF. The process is optimized for data and height information of building groupings, road or railway polylines and types, land cover, water, river polygons and polylines as well as digital terrain models.

Our data pipeline is flexible so additional formats can be rapidly supported for input to procedurally render data in 3D. We can also incorporate custom 3D models of buildings or objects, and stylize landmarks to aid in user’s visual recognition of locations.

Our map data sources

We work with multiple GIS data partners depending on their regional mapping data coverage. For areas with limited or sparse mapping data availability, we can tap our partner network or use and convert data from OpenStreetMap under an Open Database License.

This global data provides the key information such as building footprints, land cover polygons, road polylines and more that WRLD uses to produce an accurate and dynamic 3D map of the world.

TomTom is an essential source for WRLD global mapping data, providing navigable road network coverage, building footprint data across most major metropolitan areas worldwide and 3D landmark models for most major landmarks.

Micello provides indoor map data for buildings and venues globally, enabling WRLD to automatically create 3D representations of the insides of these destinations and integrate them with our 3D exterior views.

WRLD’s partnership with Ordnance Survey grants us access to high fidelity map data which includes all of the building and terrain data for Great Britain. Passing this data through our automated processing pipeline allows us to create and place precise renditions of every building on accurate terrain which displays correct land use and elevation.

ZENRIN provides high quality map data including all roads, buildings and landmarks for the country of Japan. Their comprehensive road data opened up the opportunity for WRLD to create genuine, navigable road network representations for route finding and navigation functionalities on the platform.

Visicom provides innovative GIS solutions, 3D maps and spatial calculations for most cities and regions worldwide, helping us create our world with greater realism and accuracy.

NAVINFO, the largest digital map provider in China and third-largest in the world, provides all mapping data for us to map Hong Kong in WRLD.
